Frosted Apple Pie
For the pastry
- Flour - 325 gm
- Butter- 250 gm
- Icing sugar- 125 gm
- Egg -1
- orange rind grated -1
- Cold water -3tbsp
For the filling
- Apple-900gm
- sugar- 115 gm
- corn flour- 2 tsp
- ground cinnamon-1/2 tsp
- ground nutmeg- 1/4 tsp
For the glaze
- egg white - 1
- caster sugar - 1 tbsp
- preheat the oven to 200c
- To make the pastry, Sift the flour and salt into abowl and rub in the butter until the mixture e\resembles breadcrumbs.Stir in the orange rind then add the water and egg into the mix to a dough
- wrap and chill for 20 min
- Divide into two and use one half to line the pie dish.
- To make the filling, place all filling in gredients in a bowl and mix together .transfer to the lined pie dish.
- Roll out two -thirds of the remaining pastry to a circle and use to cover the apples.Press the edges together and trimmings and cut out strips of pastry and small stars and use to decorate the top of the pie.
- To glaze,brush the top with egg white and sprinkles with sugar make 2 or 3 holes with a skewer to allow steam to escape.
- Bake the pie above the centre of the oven for 40-45 min or until the pastry is golden brown.
